ONLINE EDUCATION, GOING FORWARD
As area schools closed to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, kids without internet at home concerned many communities. These kids can no longer walk down to the public library, or another community center, to jump online due to the coronavirus. It’s a problem unfolding all across the U.S., and getting online is only half the battle.
The other underlying issue is with the sudden shift to classrooms online. Kids need access to tablets or laptops to do their homework.
KEEP AMERICANS CONNECTED
Nemont, along with many other broadband providers across the country, joined the Federal Communications Commission’s pledge to Keep Americans Connected.
With this pledge, Nemont opened free public Wi-Fi spots in communities found in our footprint to help with distance education. Anyone in these communities can get online between 8 am to 8 pm, seven days a week.
To help with technology needs in these communities, Nemont purchased 400 Chromebooks to give to schools that have students that have no computer at home.
“As your local internet provider, Nemont is dedicated to helping in any way that we can to connect these students with their teachers and classrooms. We will do everything in our capability to provide these broadband connections to see that no student is left behind,” said Gregg Hunter, PR & Marketing Specialist for Nemont.

Lastly, we recommend prioritizing your internet usage. Save Netflix movies, YouTube, and gaming as rewards for your kids in the evening. Prioritizing internet usage will free up bandwidth and allow you and your child to concentrate on what’s important.
