I am deeply inspired by the "Old Masters" and have pursued training in the classical, old style tradition of Rembrandt and other twentieth-century masters. Using the old world techniques helps me accomplish what I want to share with the viewer. Light and shadow play an integral part in my work. The light leads the viewer into the piece while the shadows create mystery and lets the viewer add their own feelings. Together, artist and viewer complete the painting. |

Great care is taken to prepare and tint each canvas or board with painting medium and burnt umber to get the proper tone. Paint and medium must be blended daily before the painting process can begin. Once the toned support is dry I prepare the paints, mixing them with Old Masters Maroger to make the paint flow on to the support. I use a concept of chiaroscuro, the high-contrast of light-against-dark. |
